Alginate wound dressings and fabrics

Biopolymers, such as alginates are excellent material for biomedical applications, such as wound dressings and fabrics. Alginates are non-toxic and can absorb excess wound fluids while maintaining a physiologically moist environment with minimal bacterial infections. The production method is wet-spinning. A dope solution is extruded into a coagulation bath to create fibers.

Download our application note and learn how, by utilizing real-time concentration measurements by Vaisala Polaris™ Refractometer, pharmaceutical manufacturers can:

  • Measure the concentration of alginate solution (or dope solution) before spinning
  • Monitor the concentration of the coagulation baths
  • Ensure fiber quality and structure

The application note explains in more detail the benefits of using refractive index in fibers manufacturing and why refractometer is ideal for monitoring liquid concentrations. The note also includes recommended installation points for best performance.
