Textile Sizing Agents Recovery by Ultrafiltration

Sizing agents concentration control for their recovery by ultrafiltration

Sizing materials, such as starches and water-soluble polymers (polyvinyl alcohol), are used to facilitate the weaving process. They are washed off from the woven cloth, and then recovered and concentrated by ultrafiltration (UF).

Wash water is controlled for the presence of sizing materials in it as they are harmful for the environment. Moreover, sizing materials can be reused and this way costs saved.

In-line Vaisala PolarisTM process refractometer measures the concentration of the sizing agent as it is passed through UF membranes. The refractometer provides real-time information on when the required concentration level is obtained.
