Sodium acetate, sodium ethanoate NaO2C2H3, also known as anhydrous salt or trihydrate, is obtained from the reaction of sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate with acetic acid.
Vaisala K-PATENTS® Process Refractometer is used to measure continuously the concentration of the final product after water has been added.
The in-line refractometer signals are used to control the addition of water so that the final sodium acetate concentration is at approximately 7% b.w.
The in-line refractometer measurement replaces the inaccurate laboratory titration method.
