Paper Sizing Process

Paper Sizing Process

Sizing is used in papermaking to improve the absorption and wear characteristics of the paper. The most common materials used in sizing solutions are starch, latex, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC). Refractometer applications are in use and preparation of these compounds, in sizing liquid cooking and size press.

Measuring sizing liquids for better paper quality, paper machine performance, and post-treatments

Download our application note to learn how sizing liquid concentration can be accurately measured to achieve consistent paper quality. Sheet wetting also affects the paper machine efficiency and after drying operations. Vaisala K-PATENTS® Process Refractometer measures in-line dissolved components in paper sizing.
