Upper Air Radiosondes RS41 and RS41 E-models

Providing high-quality atmospheric sounding data for the most accurate weather forecasting.

World-Class Radiosondes

Upper Air Radiosondes RS41 and RS41 E-models

When weather predictions are accurate, more people and their communities are protected from danger and socioeconomic impacts. Upper air soundings help provide a complete atmospheric weather profile, which enables weather organizations to make accurate forecasts.

Vaisala RS41 Upper Air Radiosondes provide world-class data to meteorological institutes and organizations, and are known for their accuracy, reliability, and ruggedness.

Vaisala’s radiosondes provide upper air weather measurement data including temperature, humidity, pressure, and wind speed and direction, and perform even in the most demanding weather conditions — all in a robust and easy-to-use design.

Streamline launch preparations, reduce human errors, and lower operational costs of upper-air weather observations with Vaisala’s Radiosondes.

Pioneering cybersecurity

Vaisala Cirrus Sounding System MW51

In today’s world, meteorological agencies face significant hybrid and cyber threats, such as GPS interference and cyberattacks, which can lead to inaccurate weather forecasts. Vaisala addresses these challenges by enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring data accuracy, and maintaining trustworthiness.

Multi-GNSS technology in Vaisala’s standard RS41 radiosonde models  uses data from multiple navigation satellites, increasing resilience against GPS interference by 60% on average* and securing accurate weather forecasts in challenging environments.

Our industry-first message authentication ensures that radiosonde messages remain unaltered during transit to provide reliable weather data. Upgrade to Vaisala Cirrus Sounding System MW51 to unlock these advancements.

RS41 E-MODELS WITH BIODEGRADABLE MATERIALS

RS41 E-MODELS WITH BIODEGRADABLE MATERIALS

Vaisala Radiosonde RS41 E-models combine high-quality atmospheric sounding data with innovative, biodegradable materials to help reduce plastic waste originating from sounding operations.

RS41 E-models are an industry first in biodegradable materials: All models include BioCover™, our patent-pending plastic-free and biodegradable radiosonde cover and insulation, and BioTwine™, our plastic-free and biodegradable unwinder twine. These new materials represent an overall reduction of 66% in plastics in the product.

Tailored to the needs of meteorological organizations, RS41 E-models can replace standard RS41 radiosondes in operational use, with the same uncompromising performance and accuracy.

Piloting radiosondes with reduced environmental impact

In 2021, during a collaborative workshop between Vaisala and MET Norway, the environmental development of radiosondes emerged as a critical discussion point, particularly how the string used to connect the radiosonde with the balloon could be developed in a more sustainable direction.
