The Journées de la Mesure et de la Métrologie (J2M) is a biennial event organized by INRAE, aimed at bringing together professionals involved in measurement and metrology. Established in 1990, its primary goal is to foster exchanges, mutualize experiences, and build a network of expertise among engineers, technicians, and administrators working in scientific measurement. Since 2004, the event has expanded to include metrology, focusing on the collaboration between those who give physical meaning to sensors and those who define validation methods and tools. J2M offers a platform for sharing practices, learning about new technologies, and enhancing the visibility and recognition of measurement-related professions within INRAE. The event covers a wide range of topics, including sensor technology, data acquisition, signal processing, and the management of measurement standards and equipment.

Vaisala experts will be on site on 6-7.10. to showcase Vaisala measurement solutions.

Greenhouse

How does the Vaisala Carbocap Technology work? Carbon dioxide has a characteristic absorbance band in the infrared (IR) region at a wavelength of 4.26 μm. This means that when IR radiation is passed through a gas containing CO2 , part of the radiation is absorbed. Therefore, the amount of radiation passing through the gas depends on the amount of CO2 present, and this can be detected with an IR detector.

How to measure CO2

How to Measure CO2?

CO2 is a colorless and odorless gas that is soluble in water. It is the bubbles in the fizzy drink, a greenhouse gas, a byproduct of burning reactions, and in the air we exhale. CO2 is itself non-combustible and inert gas, which makes reliable measurement challenging. The most dependable method for CO2 measurements is Vaisala CARBOCAP® carbon dioxide sensor, an optical infrared measurement with groundbreaking innovations. Learn more on how to measure CO2.

Summary

Professionals in HVAC field often know the gains in using carbon dioxide (CO2) as a parameter in HVAC controls. What is sometimes overlooked, is that any type of CO2 measurement won't help to achieve better energy efficiency. There are few tips in using CO2 as a proxy measurement leading to cost savings and better conditions in all buildings every HVAC professional should know.

In this free 40-minute webinar, you will learn about the CO2 measurements and their impact on controls of HVAC systems.

  • Basics of CO2 measurements
  • Reference-based CO2 measurements and ABC methods compared
