Proprietary leading technologies

Vaisala products and systems are based on our proprietary leading technologies. Our technologies include thin-film humidity sensors, infrared gas sensors, optical liquid sensors, optical weather sensors, and radio frequency technologies, among others. Over 22% of our employees work in research and development, and we have dozens of researchers in technology development.

The researchers work in the same campus area where our cleanroom and manufacturing are located, which enables continuous research, testing and development as well as fast prototyping. With continuous development, we can make our sensors even more robust and durable for a variety of conditions and environments.

HUMICAP® technology – humidity

Vaisala HUMICAP®, introduced already in 1973, is the world’s first thin-film capacitive humidity sensor. Since then, Vaisala has become the market leader in relative humidity measurements, and thin-film capacitive humidity sensors have developed into a global industry standard. Vaisala humidity sensors are used widely in meteorology, for example in radiosondes, as well as in a variety of demanding industrial applications.

BAROCAP® technology – pressure

Vaisala BAROCAP®, first introduced in 1985, is a silicon-based micromechanical pressure sensor that offers reliable performance in a wide range of applications, from meteorology to industrial measurements.

CARBOCAP® technology – carbon dioxide

Vaisala CARBOCAP® Sensor, launched in 1997, features a groundbreaking innovation – the micromachined, electrically tunable Fabry-Pérot Interferometer (FPI) filter for built-in reference measurement. This reliable and stable sensor delivers accurate measurements across a wide range of industries and applications, from building automation and safety to life sciences and ecological research.

DRYCAP® technology – dew point

Vaisala DRYCAP® is a new type of dew point sensor based on thin-film polymer technology. Since its launch in 1997, the DRYCAP® product family has grown to encompass a huge range of applications, from drying processes to compressed air and dry chambers. The DRYCAP® sensor is particularly renowned for its reliable performance in hot and very dry environments.

PEROXCAP® technology – vaporized hydrogen peroxide, relative saturation and relative humidity

Vaisala PEROXCAP® for measuring vaporized hydrogen peroxide, temperature, relative saturation and relative humidity is one of Vaisala’s newest innovations, introduced in 2017. This unique technology enables accurate and repeatable measurement of the bio-decontamination cycle with one single probe.

WINDCAP® technology – wind speed and direction

Vaisala WINDCAP® Ultrasonic Wind Sensor uses ultrasound to determine wind speed and direction. The sensor has no moving parts, which makes it independent of the limitations of mechanical wind sensors such as friction, inertia, time constant, over-speeding, and starting threshold.

RAINCAP® technology – rain intensity, duration, and accumulated rainfall

Vaisala RAINCAP® Sensor is an acoustic sensor that measures the impact of individual raindrops on a smooth stainless-steel surface using a piezoelectric detector. The sensor provides real time information on rain intensity, duration, and accumulated rainfall.
