Our hiring practice

Our hiring practice

The people who join Vaisala often stay for a long time, so getting the match right matters. We look for people who are curious about difficult questions, driven to keep growing, and motivated by work that genuinely matters, whether that means developing measurement instruments, turning data into useful insights, or helping our people and business succeed.

The exact hiring process depends on your location and the role, but it usually includes two rounds of interviews and may also involve a case assignment, aptitude assessment, or another practical exercise. Our interviews focus on the skills and behaviors that matter for the role, and you will have the opportunity to share concrete examples from your experience.

Along the way, you will typically meet your future manager and other key stakeholders and colleagues you would work with. We want to understand your experience, strengths, motivation, and approach to different situations, and you will have time to ask questions and get a comprehensive picture of the role, the team, and what working at Vaisala is like.

If we both feel it is the right fit, we move forward with an offer and any required background checks.

We appreciate the time and thought that goes into every application. Taking on a new role is a big decision, and we hope the process gives both you and us the information and confidence to decide whether Vaisala is the right next step.

Q&A: A few things you might be wondering

Can I apply for more than one position?

Yes. If more than one open position matches your skills and interests, you are welcome to apply for each of them. Every role has its own requirements and recruitment process, so tailor your application to the position and tell us why that particular opportunity interests you.

Where can I find internships, trainee roles, and thesis opportunities?

Student and early-career opportunities are published through our open positions and Students and Graduates pages. Opportunities vary by location and may include year-round internships, trainee roles, thesis positions, and our annual Giant Leap internship program. Find out more information on our Students and Graduates page.

Does Vaisala offer thesis positions for students?

Yes. Each year, students complete their final theses at Vaisala, often as part of a wider development project. Opportunities may grow from a traineeship or Giant Leap project, and occasionally we have thesis positions open for application on our careers site.

Read more about thesis opportunities at Vaisala on our Students and Graduates page.

Can I send an open application?

The positions on our careers site are the roles we are currently looking to fill. To keep our recruitment focused, ensure the proper processing of all candidates, and give each application the attention it deserves, we do not accept open applications. If you cannot find the right opportunity just yet, keep an eye on our careers pages and follow us on LinkedIn. New opportunities come up regularly, and the right one might be just around the corner.

Will I receive feedback on my application?

We let candidates know when they are no longer moving forward in the recruitment process. If you have taken part in an interview, we aim to contact you personally and, where possible, provide feedback on the decision. The level of feedback may depend on the stage of the process, the role, and local recruitment practices.

Does Vaisala support remote/hybrid work?

We support hybrid work and flexible hours work where roles allow. Teams agree on practical arrangements based on individual needs, the work at hand, and effective collaboration. The focus is on what the work requires, with employees and managers considering where different tasks are best carried out.

Hybrid work at Vaisala is built on trust, responsibility, and open communication. Many tasks can be done effectively remotely, while spending time together supports collaboration, learning, and connections across the company. Managers and employees discuss workload, priorities, schedules, and resourcing openly.
