Vaisala launches AWS810 Airport Edition for safer, more resilient airport operations
Purpose-built for airports where aging infrastructure, growing traffic, and tighter regulations demand better weather data.
Vaisala today launches the Vaisala Automatic Weather Station AWS810 Airport Edition, a new, purpose-built solution designed to help airports maintain continuous, compliant weather observations as infrastructure ages, traffic grows, and regulatory requirements tighten. The system delivers precise measurements across the airfield, supporting confident decision-making for air traffic control, meteorological services, and airport operations.
Purpose-built for aviation operations
AWS810 Airport Edition combines Vaisala’s world-leading ICAO- and WMO-compliant sensors with proven measurement technologies within a compact, rugged design, including frangible mast options for airfield safety. The small footprint and robust construction simplify installation while ensuring reliable performance in harsh airport environments.
Vaisala delivers AWS810 Airport Edition as an industrially manufactured, fully tested solution, reducing engineering effort, commissioning time, and deployment risk for airports. The AWS810 Airport Edition integrates seamlessly into Vaisala AviMet airport weather systems, including the latest AviMet 10 software, enabling unified, scalable airport weather observations from single-runway installations to fully connected airport-wide systems.
“At airports, accurate weather data drives every operational decision. AWS810 Airport Edition, together with AviMet, brings sensing, data management, connectivity, and visualization into one future-ready airport weather platform. It simplifies operations while supporting reliable, compliant performance for decades to come,” says Anne Jalkala, EVP, Weather, Energy and Environment at Vaisala.
Connected, cybersecure and scalable
AWS810 Airport Edition connects directly into Vaisala AviMet airport weather systems, creating a unified weather data environment for air traffic control, meteorological services, and airport operations. Built-in Ethernet and fiber optic connectivity options eliminate the need for additional communication enclosures.
Together with AviMet, airports can scale from single-runway installations to fully connected, airport-wide weather observation systems supporting a wide range of sensors and operational workflows.
At the core of the system is the Vaisala Data Management Unit DMU801, a proven platform used across Vaisala weather stations. It enables secure data acquisition, processing, and integration, with an open, flexible design that supports long-term scalability.
Vaisala also delivers complete turnkey airport weather systems and modernization upgrades, helping airports transition from aging infrastructure to integrated, future-ready observation environments with a single trusted partner.
Designed for long-term performance
Advanced remote diagnostics, a built-in graphical user interface, and streamlined configuration simplify operations and support efficient system management over time, helping lower total cost of ownership through reduced site visits and faster troubleshooting.
To support long-term performance beyond the system itself, airports can also benefit from Vaisala Care, an optional lifecycle service offering that helps reduce the risks and costs associated with aging infrastructure. With Vaisala Care for Airports, AWS810 Airport Edition is supported throughout its lifecycle - with planned expert support, remote capabilities, and proactive lifecycle care that help airports reduce surprises, better predict costs, and maintain accurate, reliable weather observations year after year.
Building on Vaisala’s long heritage in aviation weather, AWS810 Airport Edition and AviMet together deliver a more integrated, secure, and scalable approach to airport weather observations and operational decision-making.
New Vaisala AviMet Panel Display WID525
Alongside the AWS810 Airport Edition, Vaisala is also introducing the Vaisala AviMet Panel Display WID525, a next-generation replacement for earlier display models.
WID525 replaces multiple display hardware models with a single compact 5.7" touchscreen platform. One device handles wind data, weather data, or combined parameter views. Enhanced viewing angles, integrated visual and audible alarms improve usability for airport operations. Running on a single hardware platform simplifies spare part management, reduces lifecycle costs, and keeps operations running on a modernized, intuitive interface.
The AWS810 Airport Edition will be available globally in the second half of 2026. The Vaisala AviMet Panel Display WID525 is available now.
