Vaisala launches DMT153 dew point transmitter for ultra-dry processes
News alert
March 5, 2026
Vaisala, a global leader in measurement instruments for demanding industrial and environmental applications, launches the Vaisala DRYCAP® Dew Point Transmitter DMT153. The new transmitter is designed for ultra‑dry industrial processes where even ppm‑level moisture can compromise product quality, safety, yield, or process stability. The DMT153 provides a measurement range down to –80 °C dew point, fast response, and robust connectivity for modern OEM and process environments.
The DMT153 replaces the long-serving DMT152 and adds modern connectivity, faster response time, and simplified integration, while keeping the same trusted DRYCAP® sensor and algorithm. This helps existing users adopt the new device with familiar performance and limited extra testing.
Why ultra‑dry measurement matters
Ultra‑dry conditions involve extremely low water vapor concentrations that can still cause chemical reactions, corrosion, or defects. These conditions are critical in lithium‑ion and solid‑state battery manufacturing, semiconductor production, and high‑purity gas systems.
The DMT153 provides reliable moisture measurement so users can detect problems early, react faster, and stabilize production.
Optimized for critical industries
DMT153 is optimized for processes that run at very low dew points, where even small moisture excursions can cause defects or scrap. Typical applications include:
- Lithium-ion and solid-state battery dry rooms and dry booths
- Semiconductor cleanrooms, process tools, and specialty gas lines
- High-end compressed air systems
- Electronics, pharmaceutical, and precision manufacturing
- OEM equipment such as glove boxes, compact dryers, and test chambers for ultra-dry environments
- Pure gas manufacturing, distribution and consumption
Key Benefits
Fast reaction and high accuracy at very low dew points
- Responds in minutes rather than hours or days like with conventional moisture sensors or analyzers
- Detects moisture excursions early to avoid defects and scrap
- Allows tighter alarm limits and earlier process recovery
- Supports real accuracy and stability at extremely low dew points
Modern connectivity and easy integration
- Vaisala Indigo compatibility, including Indigo80 for on‑site diagnostics, spot‑checks, and configuration
- Modbus RTU over RS485 for seamless integration into PLC and DCS systems
- Can be combined with Vaisala Indigo500, Indigo300, or Indigo200 transmitters for multiple analog outputs and local display
Lifecycle value and long-term stability
Reliable performance with minimal maintenance
The DMT153 is engineered for excellent long-term stability. It withstands demanding conditions, including occasional condensation and wet exposure, and recovers quickly without the drift and failures that are common with many metal oxide sensors. This robustness means fewer surprises, fewer unplanned interventions, and more predictable operation over the life of the instrument.
Auto‑calibration and chemical purge
A chemical purge function and auto-calibration support use in processes with continuous moderate chemical contamination, when checked against the specific chemicals involved. The auto-calibration function continuously corrects measurement drift and keeps the instrument on target, so customers can base alarms, controls, and quality decisions on a stable dew point and residual moisture signal.
Portable validation and field verification
With Vaisala Indigo80 handheld paired with DMT probes, users can:
- Validate system and process conditions in‑situ, without external sampling
- Perform fast annual spot‑checks of existing frost point or dew point instruments
- Identify the best installation locations for permanent sensors
- Conduct traceable dew point field measurements down to –80 °C (–112 °F) Td/f
- Connect up to two measurements simultaneously for before/after comparison
- Use a single compact, battery‑powered field kit for recording, diagnostics, and temporary research setups
- Benefit from DRYCAP® technology that responds in minutes, not hours
- Rely on rugged, IP‑classified metal probes designed to withstand water and common industrial chemicals
Calibration with traceable certification
Customers' own quality control defines how often their instruments need to be calibrated. Vaisala as a manufacturer of the probe, offers factory calibration and other services for the product lifecycle. By calibrating the probe with us, customers can always be reassured that they get a traceable calibration certificate and original factory specifications of the instrument.
