What is Giant Leap?

Is your ideal summer job made of meaningful opportunities? Would you like to kick-start your career in an innovative and international environment? We at Vaisala offer you a highly valued internship program that our previous generations of Giant Leapers describe as memorable, challenging and just a splendid experience in general. Do your future self a favor and apply to Giant Leap!

Giant Leap is Vaisala's internship program for 3+ year students in a university or polytechnic. For summer 2020, we'll hire 20 students for a period of three months to our head office in Vantaa Finland, our US head office in Louisville, Colorado, and our office in Beijing, China. As a Giant Leap intern, you'll work either individually, in pairs or together with experienced Vaisala employees on real-life projects that have genuine business relevance.

Challenging but also rewarding, the program is designed for students with a variety of skills, qualities and educational backgrounds. To us, motivation and intellectual curiosity are more important than specific achievements or your line of studies. We don’t expect you to have all the answers but we hope you have lots of questions. Whether you're a future software guru, product development expert, business development wizard, world-class industrial designer  or anything in between, we might be just the right fit for each other.

The application period for Giant Leap 2020 is now open! Send your application before February 9th for projects in our offices in Finland and US.

Be sure to follow us on LinkedInFacebook and Instagram to stay in the loop of the recruitment process and learn more about Giant Leap. Application for project in China starts in March.

Giant Leap FAQ

What is Vaisala?

Vaisala is a global leader in environmental and industrial measurement. We contribute toward better quality of life by providing a comprehensive range of innovative observation and measurement products and services for chosen weather-related and industrial markets. As an employer, Vaisala offers its staff the opportunity for long-term professional development in a company that operates in a responsible way.

Can I choose the projects I will work on?

The contents of the project will be primarily determined through Vaisala's business needs, but all fresh and innovative ideas from the program participants are highly valued.

Where will the interns be located?

Giant Leap interns will be working in our head office in Vantaa, Finland, our US head office in Louisville, Colorado or in our office in Beijing, China. Applicants must have a work permit for Finland, US or China depending on intern's location, as Vaisala does not provide sponsorship for immigration in the context of this program.

Does Vaisala offer long-term career prospects?

Many of our employees began their careers at Vaisala as interns. An internship program is a good way of getting to know the company, its customers and business. We do not, however, automatically offer our interns permanent employment.

What are the selection events like?

The selection events will involve individual interviews with the project owner and HR, as well as discussions around the program and projects. Candidates will also be given an introductory presentation of Vaisala and our activities and customers.

Does Vaisala offer traditional summer jobs?

Yes, we do. The Vaisala Giant Leap internship program complements the traditional summer jobs we offer every summer. The application period for traditional summer jobs is open in the beginning of the year, see our open positions page for more information.
