Wind-assisted ship propulsion (WASP) continues to gain momentum as the maritime industry looks for practical ways to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. As adoption grows, understanding and making the best use of wind conditions becomes increasingly important — not only for propulsion performance, but also for safe and efficient vessel operations.

We have been conducting industry surveys on wind observation and optimization for wind-assisted vessels since 2022. Two years ago, we carried out the second edition of the survey exploring the challenges and future needs related to wind observation and optimization on wind-assisted vessels. The results provided valuable insights into how the industry was using wind measurement technologies and where further development was needed. Read more here.

Among the findings was a clear need for accurate and undisturbed wind data, as well as growing interest in technologies such as remote wind measurement and wind nowcasting to support better utilization and optimization of wind propulsion systems.

What has changed in two years?

Our new survey aims to understand how needs, practices and priorities around wind observation and optimization have evolved over the past two years. We want to hear from companies and professionals working with wind-assisted shipping — whether you participated in our previous survey or are sharing your views for the first time.

We are particularly interested in understanding the role that accurate wind information plays today, the challenges that remain, and where better wind observation and forecasting could bring the greatest value in the future.

Help us build a clearer picture of the industry

By participating, you will contribute to a broader understanding of the current state and future needs of wind observation and optimization in wind-assisted shipping.

The findings will help identify key industry trends and priorities and support continued development of technologies that enable vessels to make better use of wind — improving performance, efficiency and operational decision-making.

The survey is anonymous and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and is open until November 30, 2026.

Take the survey and share your perspective.
