Working at Vaisala

We’re in the home stretch of our Product Development Project (PDP) with Aalto University — and what a journey it’s been! Since last autumn, a talented student team from Aalto and Porto has teamed up with Vaisala experts to tackle a real challenge: how to make device configuration and maintenance simpler, smarter, and more user-friendly.

Fresh ideas and smart insights

The students have dug deep, combining user research, competitor analysis, and early prototyping to uncover some exciting opportunities. Their work highlights clear ways to improve ease of use, reduce complexity, and enhance the overall service experience for our customers.

The team’s fresh perspective has zeroed in on wireless, app-based solutions. Their early concepts show how combining wireless connectivity with smart software tools could streamline device setup and calibration in a way that’s fast, efficient, and intuitive.

What’s happening next?

The countdown is on! With the final gala just around the corner on May 16th in Otaniemi, the students are refining their prototypes, finalizing a video showcase, and preparing to present their ideas. Before that, they’ll share their work at the Vaisala Open House on the previous day — giving our employees a chance to see their ideas in action and offer feedback.

Why it matters

Reflecting on the collaboration, Noe Anttonen, leading the PDP project at Vaisala, shares:
“It’s been a real joy collaborating with this student team. Their curiosity, energy, and fresh ideas have brought so much value. The open, honest teamwork has made this a meaningful and productive experience — and I can’t wait to see what they deliver at the gala!”

We couldn’t be prouder of what’s been achieved so far. And with the final stretch ahead, we’re excited to see these ideas come to life.

The challenge is complex, but their holistic and curious attitude has helped strongly in diving deep and finding the core aspects to work on."
