On January 1 this year, I woke up in Machu Picchu, Peru, thinking of the upcoming year and what it will bring. Little did I know that 2020 would become such a remarkable, different, challenging – and for me personally – also a very exciting and rewarding year.
In October, I had the pleasure and privilege to take on the responsibility as new President and CEO of Vaisala. These first months in the company have exceeded all of my expectations. I am amazed by the skills and know-how of our people, the unique way of turning science into technological innovations, and the grit as well as dedication our global teams have shown to take our company through the COVID-19 pandemic. I am deeply grateful and humbled to be part of this team.
Rounding off this year, I will not be in Peru but home in Finland, wondering about what 2021 will have in store.
Highest on my wish list is the possibility to meet more colleagues, customers, and partners around the world face to face after months of virtual meetings. Moreover, I am counting the days until we open our new state-of-the-art R&D and innovation center at our Vantaa campus in Q1. And not to forget February 18, when our technology once again is planned to land on Mars as part of the NASA 2020 rover and start providing data for the first-ever meteorological network on another planet.
However, before entering 2021, we all deserve a well-earned and relaxing break. 2020 has been a remarkable year that has taught all of us a lot – both about business and working life as well as what truly is important in life. My sincere thanks go to all of you reading this for your collaboration during this year and the years to come.
I wish you a joyful holiday season with those closest to you and a prosperous year 2021.
President and CEO, Vaisala
