viewLinc 5.1 Enterprise Server - Service Updates

Periodically Vaisala releases Service Updates for viewLinc software, as part of our commitment to continuous improvement. Service Updates include fixes for known issues and enhancements to existing functionality. The Errata lists all issues addressed by the Service Update.

Please contact your Vaisala sales representative to obtain the latest viewLinc service update for your product. The Service Update is recommended for all systems, including systems validated for use in a GxP-regulated environment. We recommend that the installation follow the change control procedures of your facility and your IT department. Additionally, make sure you have a full backup of your viewLinc system prior to installing the Service Update, as would be expected of any critical system during an update under change control.

To verify that the installation of the Service Update is successful, the safest solution is always to perform a full execution of the Software Installation / Operational Qualification Protocol for Vaisala viewLinc Enterprise Server Software Version 5.1, document #M212318. However, execution of the full protocol is not considered necessary for all customers.  For customers with higher risk tolerance, we recommend executing specific sections of document #M212318. The specific sections to execute are:

NOTE: Performing the Native Security IQ/OQ protocol #M212485 is optional. It is recommended to perform the protocol if you use viewLinc authentication.

NOTE: Comprehensive testing of all functions is performed during our extensive internal development testing and software validation of each Service Update. Therefore, the recommended tests do not challenge every function in the system. They are intended to provide documentation and confidence that the Service Update was applied in a controlled manner, and that the critical functions of the viewLinc system continue to operate as expected in your network environment following the installation of a Service Update.

Section 9.11, Step 2, Instructs the tester to verify that the Alarm Notification Template "Voice ANT" (detailed in Table 9.11-b) is configured as "Send to Group: Everyone". This configuration may not be allowed on systems with large numbers of users in the Group "Everyone". The recommended work-around is to use the Group "IQOQ Protocol", as it typically only has few members.

Section 9.23, Step 12, If this test is done with an AP10, and the RFL100 used for testing connects to a different AP10, the host communication alarm will not be seen on the specified alarm report.

Section 6.2.1, Execution Guidance: the 3rd bullet point, "Calibration Verification", is no longer valid in this section and should be deleted.

Section 7.6, Software Installation Verification, steps 8-11: The Expected Results of these steps is to see the service status as "Started".  However, in Windows 10 these services show as RUNNING, not as STARTED.

Section 9.11, Voice Message Alarm Notification Verification: Table references in steps 1, 2, 5, and 14 incorrectly refer to Tables with the prefix 9.10.  All tables referenced in these steps should have the prefix 9.11.

Section 9.1.16, Notification Escalation Verification: the title of this section is correct, but the content is incorrectly a duplicate of an earlier section (9.1.11) and not applicable in this section.

D

Sections 9.3, 9.6, 9.7, 9.17, 9.18: the passwords “TEST”, “test”, and “CUSTOM” need to be changed in the sections listed below. Some of the sections below also require corrections to certain references to step numbers and a parameter addition.

  • Section 9.3 User Creation and Password Verification:
    • Prerequisites/Guidance: change “steps 9 through 12” to “steps 8 through 11”
    • Table 9.3-b: add parameter “Must change password at login” set to “No”; change password “TEST” to “Test123!”
    • Step 4: change password “TEST” to “Test123!”
    • Steps 3 and 5: change password “CUSTOM” to “Custom51!”
    • Steps 6 and 7: change password “test” to “51Custom!”
    • Step 8: change “steps 9 through 12” to “steps 8 through 11”.
  • Section 9.6 Security Rights Verification:
    • Tables 9.6-a, b, c, d, e, and f: change password “test” to “<any>”
  • Section 9.7 Access Permissions Verification:
    • Tables 9.7-a, b, c, d, e, and f: change password “test” to “<any>”
  • Section 9.17 Notification Escalation Verification:
    • Tables 9.17-a, b, and c: change password “test” to “<any>”
  • Section 9.18 User Schedule Verification:
    • Tables 9.18-c and d: change password “test” to “<any>”

Section 9.25 Calculation Verification: the following note needs to be added to the Prerequisites/Guidance information: "This test may require changing the Region settings of the computer used to open the Document #M212107 spreadsheet. For best results, set the Region to “United States”, and set the Regional Format to “English (United States)"

Section 13 Revision History: the document revision history table in is missing the following entry for revision D: "Multiple minor changes to correct and improve test instructions".

C

Section 9.3 User Creation and Password Verification: step 3, "Verify that the Group Everyone has the right Manage Reports, and has no other rights" should be removed and is not to be executed. The rights are to be verified in section 9.6 Security Rights Verification, step 1.

Section 9.3 User Creation and Password Verification: step 13 is missing the information that it needs to be performed by a user with administrative access.

Section 9.7 Access Permissions Verification: Step 21, result 21a reads 'Access allowed?'. This should instead read  'Access NOT allowed?'.

Section 9.7 Access Permissions Verification: Step 22, "Verify that the alarm was NOT acknowledged by OQ User D.", should be removed and is not to be executed.

Section 9.23 Host Communication Alarm Verification: Step 6 needs to be amended with the following note: "Disconnecting power to an AP10 may cause this test to fail if there are multiple AP10s on the system".

Section 9.2 Output Relay Test - Command Alarm Notification Verification: the following entry needs to be updated to the following to reduce: "This test section should be executed once for each output relay connected to the system. This form may be duplicated as necessary.". Testing one relay is sufficient for this test phase.

Section 9.3 Signal Tower Activation Verification: the following entry needs to be updated to the following to reduce the testing effort: "This test section should be executed once for each Signal Tower connected to the system. NOTE: Comprehensive testing of all functions is performed during our extensive internal development testing and software validation of each Service Update. Therefore, the recommended tests do not challenge every function in the system. They are intended to provide documentation and confidence that the Service Update was applied in a controlled manner, and that the critical functions of the viewLinc system continue to operate as expected in your network environment following the installation of a Service Update.

vLog 4.5

vLog 4.5 IQ/OQ Protocol Errata

To ensure that the vLog Data Logging and Reporting System has been set up properly, is functional, and operates with a high degree of integrity, security, and reliability, the system can be tested by performing an Installation and Operational Qualification (IQ/OQ) Protocol. The  Vaisala document code of the IQ/OQ protocol document is #M211382.

The following errata table lists the known issues in the #M211382 protocol document.

Protocol Revision Known Issues
vLog 4.5 IQ/OQ Validation Protocol M211382 B (current revision)

Section 6.3, Logger Information: The section includes information about logger calibrations carried out by Vaisala. The following changes should be noted:

  • Calibrations are no longer performed by Vaisala Canada.

  • Logger calibration certificates should be considered acceptable if they are traceable to a national or international standard.

Section 6.4, Computer Hardware Requirements and Configuration: The section refers to the hardware requirements of the computer that vLog is used on, but the requirements have not been defined clearly. The computer used to run vLog 4.5 is considered to meet the hardware requirements, if it:

  1. Has one of the recommended operating systems loaded.
  2. Can connect with a Vaisala Logger with a USB Port, Serial Port, or Ethernet Connection (requires vNet or Digi device).
