Boasting a 30-mile best accuracy range, the TSS928 differentiates between cloud, intra-cloud, and cloud-to-ground lightning. Powerful sensors capture data on direction and distance, as well as cloud lightning discharges.

The TSS928 detects cloud and cloud-to-ground lightning within 56 km (35 mi), as well as optical, magnetic, and electrostatic pulses from lightning events with zero false alarms.

Its sensors have a detection efficiency of 98% for thunderstorms within 19 km (12 mi) presenting three or more cloud-to-ground discharges, and approximately 70% for cloud-to-ground flashes within 18.5 km (11.5 mi).

In addition to collecting cloud and cloud-to-ground lighting data on approaching storms, TSS928 sensors also detect real-time lightning events for storms that develop directly overhead.
