Phenolic resins are formed by reacting phenol and formaldehyde.

Vaisala K-PATENTS® Process Refractometer PR-43-GP measures the formalin concentration before the reactor. In a batch or continuous reactor, the refractometer is used in the distillation phase to monitor the degree of reaction, to follow the progress of the reaction and to determine the end-point of the reaction.
