Tackling a few wind farm development challenges Vaisala and our partners continually research and innovate to find solutions for our wind farm customers in every phase of development and operations. Join this next LiveCast for an inside look at two innovative ways WindCube wind lidar helps developers in more challenging terrain. For the first topic, a key member of our scientific team will reveal how customers leverage our award-winning Terrain Complexity Estimator tool. We do this as a service to to help our customers evaluate the level of complexity of their prospective locations. For the second topic, our partner, Pavana, will talk about their work with a customer to test and evaluate a unique method to measure wind in a low-aerosol, clean air environment. The speaker will provide an overview of the method and present key learnings realized so far. What we’ll cover: Evaluating prospective locations with Terrain Complexity Estimator service Using Flow Complexity Recognition software, Computational Fluid Dynamics correction method, dual scanning lidar, and Turbulence Intensity measurements Pavana discusses a unique method to measure wind in a low-aerosol, clean air environment with key learnings IF YOU HAVE ALREADY REGISTERED FOR THIS WEBINAR, PLEASE USE THIS LINK. Speaker Annika Baltzer: Annika is the Technical Head of Department for Lidar Verification at PAVANA. She and her team are responsible for the remote sensing device verification at PAVANA’s 200 m high measurement met mast. She specializes in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of lidar measurements and on establishing lidar as a standalone tool for energy yield assessments. Annika joined PAVANA in 2021 and holds a master's degree in Renewable Energy.
Speaker Andrew Black focuses on the use of WindCube for wind energy applications. He has worked in R&D for a variety of products at Vaisala, including the Triton sodar, the X- and C-band weather radars, and wind energy forecasting technology. He has worked in wind energy since 2008, at Second Wind, Vaisala, and Leosphere. Andrew is one of the inventors of Triton’s TPU speaker and Sodar 3.0 algorithms. He has served in various industry groups, including the American Meteorological Society’s Renewable Energy Committee, the Consortium For the Advancement of Remote Sensing, and the IEC 61400-15, among others. He has a BA in Physics from Tufts University and an MS in Applied Physics from Columbia University.
Moderator Jeff Gawrych leads the renewable energy team in North America and focuses on the adoption of Vaisala’s WindCube Suite within the wind energy development market. Jeff has worked his entire career to help customers and their businesses best utilize weather and remote sensing solutions, including working in Wind Resource Assessment for over 10 years. Jeff also led the technical sales team at IBM-The Weather Company, which focused on delivering solutions for the energy and utility industry. He has a BA in Communications from UC Santa Barbara and a MS in Meteorology from San Jose State University.
