BWS500 set up FAQs

The following information contains answers to frequently asked questions. If you cannot find an answer to your question, contact Vaisala Technical Support.

Which radio approvals does BSW500 have?

Connected Compact Station BWS500 includes EGW501 gateway that has a radio module inside. The EGW501 radio module has the following radio approvals in the following countries:

  • CE (Europe)
  • EAC/CE (Ukraine)
  • FCC (USA)
  • IC (Canada)
  • RCM (Australia and New Zealand)
  • Giteki (Japan)
  • OMAN-TRA (Oman)
  • Kenya
  • Ethiopia

Why is the BWS500 not powering up or sending data?

The battery in the power supply unit PSU501 may be fully discharged due to, for example, long storage time or extreme environmental conditions. In solar-powered sites, the battery may be discharged because the solar panel has not received enough sunlight.

If the battery is fully discharged, PSU501 does not provide enough power for EGW501 to start the station. You have to wait until the battery reaches a sufficient state of charge.

  • If AC (mains) power is connected, the charging can take up to 30 minutes.
  • If DC power is connected, the waiting time may be longer.

After that, EGW501 starts automatically and the Connected Compact Station BWS500 is operational.
