The Vaisala AVAPS Dropsonde Receiving System and Vaisala
Dropsonde RD93 represent the latest in dropsounding technology, utilizing an
onboard dropsonde microprocessor and synthesized digital transmission. The
combination offers atmospheric researchers a complete solution for accurate
in-situ measurement of the atmosphere, a solution versatile enough for use in
many different kinds of aircraft.
Several thousand Vaisala Dropsonde RD93s are launched
annually for targeted weather observations, especially hurricane reconnaissance
and research. Vaisala AVAPS customers include NOAA (US), the US Air Force, NCAR
(US), NASA, the MSC (Canada), DLR (Germany), MRF (UK) and NIPR (Japan).
