Vaisala ROSA (Road & Runway Surface Analyser) Weather Station

The Vaisala ROSA Weather Station provides real-time weather and pavement data to inform decision-makers of ice, snow and low visibility.  Road / Runway Weather Stations are often also known as 'RWIS' or Environmental Sensor Sites ('ESS').

The ROSA station is compact and modular, making it easy to expand the number of sensors attached. The standard installation reports on surface and ground temperature, water layer thickness, air temperature, humidity, dew point, precipitation, wind speed and direction and warns of black ice.

The DRS511 Road/Runway Sensor plays the leading role in the ROSA station and the system provides anti-icing concentration, freezing point temperature and surface state.

The ROSA station can be powered from mains supply, solar power or battery depending upon its location. Data is transferred at configurable, regular intervals via dial-up over a PSTN or leased line, GSM, GPRS or radio modem. Stations fitted with a DMC586 processing unit will also transfer data directly, over the Internet.

Processing Unit

The DMC586 enhances the capability of the ROSA weather station, enabling increased frequency of data, relay of weather camera images and use of international communication protocols.

Interface Cards

At the heart of the ROSA weather station, these cards provide the interface between the road and atmospheric sensors and the data logger.

Communications Protocols

The ROSA weather station supports a range of communication protocols.
