Modular technology for focused performance
The new Vaisala Thunderstorm Information System is a modular lightning
detection system designed to meet total lightning and cloud-to-ground lightning
information needs in meteorology, hydrology, electric power distribution,
aviation, defense and telecommunications. Lightning is a critical weather
observation for fast and accurate identification of thunderstorm development
and related severe weather hazards.
Best combination of lightning sensing for all thunderstorm phases
Vaisala Thunderstorm Information System combines the two most effective
lightning detection technologies for comprehensive lightning information and
accurate detection of the lightning types that are most indicative of the
thunderstorm lifecycle and related hazards. Very high frequency (VHF)
interferometry technology provides extremely high performance in detection of
cloud lightning, while the low frequency (LF) combined magnetic direction
finding and time-of-arrival technology offers the highest detection efficiency
and most accurate location for cloud-to-ground lightning strokes.
Needs-based configuration for total lightning and cloud-to-ground
lightning
The cloud-to-ground lightning configuration is ideal for operations focused on
cloud-to-ground lightning detection with high accuracy in lightning location
and stroke characterization. The total lightning configuration improves
nowcasting with early identification of hazardous convective weather as well as
faster and more accurate tracking of thunderstorm development, intensity, and
dissipation. The modular system allows each configuration either to be built
from the start, combined in a network, or added as part of a multi-year
evolvement path.
Archive Processor AP5000 is a processing module in that specializes in archiving cloud and cloud-to-ground lightning data for forensic applications.
The LS7001 is a compact, lightweight sensor that employs low frequency (LF) combined magnetic direction finding and time of-arrival technology which offers the highest detection efficiency and most accurate location for cloud-to-ground lightning strokes
The LS8000 sensor configuration integrates the two most effective lightning detection technologies: Very high frequency (VHF) interferometry low frequency (LF) combined magnetic direction finding and time-of-arrival VHF interferometry technology.
TLP processes real-time total lightning data from various sensor configurations. The new TLP introduces improvements to the patented Vaisala location algorithm and new propagation correction services yielding improved location accuracy in networks to 250m or better.
