The Vaisala LAP®-8000 Mid-Tropospheric Wind Profiler is a Doppler radar which provides vertical profiles of horizontal wind speed and direction, and vertical wind velocity up to an altitude of 8 km above ground level. By adding the Radio Acoustic Sounding System (RASS) option, the system can provide measurements of virtual temperature up to 2,5 km. LAP®-8000 is a vertical wind profiling system used as a valuable supplement to upper-air observations in applications like aviation operations, border surveillance, climate change research, mesoscale and synoptic observations and analysis.
