Vaisala LAP®-3000 Lower Atmosphere Profiler

The Vaisala LAP®-3000 Lower Atmosphere Profiler is a Doppler radar which provides vertical profiles of horizontal wind speed and direction, and vertical wind velocity to an altitude of 3 km above ground level. 

With vertical wind profiles ath their disposal, ATC personnel can warn pilots when the aircraft are suspectible to moderate-to-strong vertical wind shear events during take-off and final approach. With better understanding of the vertical structure of the wind, the airport authority gains a critical extra margin of safety anc can increase the efficiency of its operations.
