The Vaisala IceCast Rain Warning System

Aqua-planing is a major hazard on roads and runways. Vaisala offers a solution for the maintenance engineer to manage this problem.

The ROSA weather station equipped with a DRS511 road sensor and Present Weather Detector (PWD) provides rain warnings.

The DRS511 fibre-optic road surface sensor returns a water film thickness reading to assist in determining the likelihood of potential aqua-planing.

The PWD detects the type of, and measures the intensity of precipitation. PWDs can be installed in conjunction with ROSA weather stations or as stand-alone installation.

Data is displayed via the IceView or IceWeb software modules. This solution may be integrated with VMS technology to provide road users with warning/advisory information.
