Snowstorms

Chaos and disruption ensues with just a few centimeters of snow. Severe snowstorms can leave settlements isolated, roads blocked and even be a threat to life. When snow is predicted, road temperatures are not important, the vital information is when and where is the snow going to fall. Vaisala’s range of sensor’s can detect, observe and measure snowfall across a region or road network. Present Weather Detectors measure the type, amount and intensity of precipitation to accurately report the presence of falling snow. If that snow settles on the ground than the Remote Surface Sensor DSC511 will measure the thickness of that snow layer and the effect that snow has on the grip of the road. However the most information regarding snowstorm impact can be taken from a visual observation. Traffic Weather Cameras located around the network will show where and when the snow is falling and how quickly it is settling.
