Tornados

The measurement of tornados has become increasingly important, with efforts to give early warning of impending emergencies and hazards to areas within the tornados path.  Accurate information requires meteorological data including radar and lightning.

Thunderstorm networks

Vaisala Thunderstorm Information System is a modular lightning detection system designed to meet total lightning and cloud-to-ground lightning information needs in meteorology, hydrology, electric power distribution, aviation, defense and telecommunications.

Real-time lightning data

Meteorologists and also managers responsible for human safety, property protection, risk management, and productivity use Vaisala NLDN data for early warning of lightning and thunderstorm threats. Lightning is a fast and accurate indicator of severe weather and by knowing when and where lightning is active, planned precautions can be taken early to reduce vulnerability and risk.

Thunderstorm warning systems

Operations and safety managers rely on Vaisala Thunderstorm Warning Systems to minimize inconsistent and subjective decisions about lightning, to support safety goals, and to improve operational efficiency.

Weather Radar

Vaisala will introduce its first weather radar in 2007. Accurate data and low maintenance costs have been the key goals in designing the new C-band weather radar.
