Fire Weather
Large forest fires generate their own weather, which may be different from
weather being forecasted even a few miles away. Fire agencies deploy portable
weather stations that include sensors for wind speed, wind direction, air
temperature, humidity, solar radiation, fuel moisture and radio transmitter.
Firefighters rely on weather information to predict which way a wilderness fire
or prescribed burn will travel.
