Naval meteorology & electro-optical sensor performance
Accurate atmospheric information is critical for the
assessment of weapon system performance. It’s also important for improving
passive countermeasures. The uneven distribution of water vapour close to the
sea surface, together with temperature inversions, can lower the effectiveness
of high frequency radar systems. This in turn can hamper the detection of high
speed, non-cooperative targets.
Maritime patrol aircraft with airborne radar systems can predict
surveillance coverage using dropsonde observations of refractive conditions. Vaisala
offers a suite of weather measurement systems that can dramatically improve
both weapon performance and shipboard defense. We have decades of experience in
configuring naval meteorological systems, with over 100 systems in 20
countries. We are also able to offer worldwide support and training.
