How do I connect a Vaisala transmitter into a LAN/WLAN network?

The purpose of the following information is to provide a general overview of how to connect a Vaisala transmitter to a (W)LAN network. The specific instructions are included in the product manuals*.

1. Start by configuring the basic networking parameters of your Vaisala transmitter so that they are suitable for connecting to your network. Some networks use dynamic addressing (DHCP), some networks require the IP address and other parameters to be entered manually. Consult your network administrator if you are unsure.

Note: When configuring the transmitter, use the most convenient method available. Some transmitters have a keypad and display, some need to be configured from the serial line (using the service port, for example).

2. If you are connecting using WLAN, you must additionally configure the wireless networking parameters such as network name, encryption type, and encryption key.

3. After your transmitter is set up, connect it physically to the network. Transmitters with LAN connectivity must be connected to the network using the provided cable or connector. Transmitters with WLAN need to be placed in a suitable location withing the range of the wireless network with their antenna attached.

4. You can now connect to the transmitter using the MI70 Link software (up-to-date version required), or by using a terminal application such as PuTTY. PuTTY is available for download from the right column.
