Can the OMT355 oxygen transmitter withstand steam sterilization?

Yes, tests show that the in-situ model of the OMT355 will tolerate steam sterilization of 121°C saturated steam at 2 bar for 30 minutes. The durability of the plastic part supporting the entry window was of special interest in tests where the sensor was heated to 130°C and the probe was pressurized to 3 bar. There were no leaks or loss of measurement performance.

In applications requiring sterilization the pore size of the PTFE filter may become an issue. The pore size of the PTFE filter is 8 µm, so it is not considered a microbial barrier. This means that if the probe is used in a location that needs to be sterilized, the sterilization should include also the probe parts inside the filters - in some cases this could be more easily achieved by not having the porous PTFE filter in place.
