You can improve safety and efficiency by getting precise real-time information on prevailing wind conditions and machinery performance.

Accurate wind information is crucial for dynamic positioning and navigation. Real-time wind data helps to keep the vessel on course and aids in Dynamic Positioning (DP). The data can be integrated into the ship's bridge system (IBS) to enhance safe and efficient ship management.

Vaisala's comprehensive set of high precision, stable measurement instruments help to maximize machinery performance. Various applications benefit of the measurements. For example, monitoring water contamination in lubrication and hydraulic systems or compressed air systems help to minimize the maintenance costs and machinery downtime. The DNV approval is a guarantee that our products withstand harsh marine conditions.

    Integrated Bridge Systems

     Integrated Bridge Systems

Sudden changes in wind speed or direction are potentially dangerous and may have severe consequences. Accurate, real-time wind data is vital for keeping the vessel on its course.

Vaisala provides a wide range of accurate, reliable and robust wind sensors for demanding weather conditions and applications. Vaisala Ultrasonic Wind Sensors are an excellent alternative to the cup and vane mechanical sensors. Ultrasonic sensors contain no moving parts and are virtually maintenance-free. A heated model is also available.

Vaisala wind sensors and displays are easy to integrate with ship's bridge systems and processes to support efficient and timely decision-making. The US National Weather Service relies on Vaisala ultrasonic technology.

To ensure the safety of navigation International Marine Organization (IMO) is developing new provisions and performance standards on wind measuring equipment. Vaisala wind sensors and indicators are designed to fullfil the IMO criteria.

    Dynamic Positioning

     Dynamic Positioning

When wind direction or speed suddenly change while a vessel is trying to maintain its position, it may be difficult to take corrective action fast enough. Accurate, real-time wind data is vital for Dynamic positioning (DP).

Optimize maintenance and extend equipment lifetime by measuring water contamination in oil online

Water in lubrication and hydraulic systems deteriorates oil performance, causes corrosion and can ruin polar additives. Leading marine engine manufacturers cite water contamination in oil as a significant ship maintenance challenge and have set specific requirements for allowable limits of moisture in oil.

Vaisala’s moisture and temperature transmitter MMT330 accurately measures moisture in oil online, giving a real-time picture of the oil’s condition. Thus, corrective actions can be taken before water damages critical machine parts. MMT330 is compatible with any lubrication and hydraulic oil type and works independent of oil age and temperature. Go to the specifications of MMT330.

    Compressed Air Systems

     Compressed Air Systems

Improve reliability and prevent downtime by measuring dewpoint

To keep compressed air system operating properly the air must be sufficiently dry. Excess moisture can lead to water condensation, which can result in corrosion, ice formation, and valve and equipment failure.

Vaisala’s dewpoint transmitter DMT340 helps to ensure the compressed air is dry enough to secure reliable system operation. Our transmitter offers unparalleled accuracy and long-term stability. Even water spikes don't affect the Vaisala Drycap® sensor incorporated in the DMT340. Go to the specifications of DMT340.

More efficient control by measuring moisture in inlet air

Humid air is fed into engines both to optimize engine efficiency and to minimize NOx emissions. However, since water condensation must be avoided, highly precise humidity information is needed.

Vaisala’s humidity transmitter HMT337 incorporates patented sensor technology enabling accurate air measurements near saturation. It provides accurate humidity readings even after condensing situations, without the need for a sensor drying period normally required by conventional humidity instruments. Go to the specifications of HMT337.

    NOx Emission Monitoring

     NOx Emission Monitoring

Get accurate ambient air data at once

The tightening of NOx emission regulations has lead to an increasing need for monitoring and emissions reporting.

Vaisala's pressure, temperature and humidity transmitter PTU300 provides at once all the engine inlet air data needed for the correction of the measured emission values to the standard conditions used in reporting. Go to the specifications of PTU300.
