1. What got you interested in the Giant Leap internship program?
When I was comparing different summer internship opportunities in the spring Vaisala stood out, because it offered real business based challenges instead of just routine tasks, which most companies favor. Vaisala's business is also related to aviation, which is one my favorite spare time activities. I also heard some praise from a friend whose friend had attended the program.

2. Could you tell us a little about your internship project at Vaisala?
My project was about Vaisala's project business profitability. I analyzed the factors affecting profitability and on-time delivery. I also got a chance to develop a couple of key performance indicators for project business that were tightly related to the analysis and results that I had presented. My summer involved a lot of discussions with different professionals within Vaisala as well as acquiring and analyzing data from different sources.

3. What is your educational background like? Do you feel you could apply your skills and knowledge during your time with Vaisala?
I have studied accounting in the University of Oulu with marketing as a minor. Currently I am starting to work on my master's thesis and the fourth year of my studies, which should be my last one. I have also completed aviation studies in the Finnish aviation academy between my university studies. My Giant Leap summer gave me valuable experience in how management accounting and reporting that I have studied is carried out in an international company. My aviation interest helped me to understand the end user perspective of Vaisala's products.

4. What did you learn from the internship?
I learned how project business is conducted in a professional manner. With my own project I became familiar with all the risk factors that exist when business is done in a global environment. I also learned a great deal about Vaisala, its personnel and the technology industry.

5. How would you describe Vaisala as an employer to students who are seeking an internship?
Vaisala is a great place to spend your summer doing something that really matters! Vaisala is a very diverse company with lots of opportunities regardless of your educational background. Giant Leap offers a chance to really show your capabilities. The presence of the other Giant Leap interns will make sure that in addition to experince you also gain a lot of new friends!
