Yani, Application Sales Engineer: Vaisala Boston, USA

Yani has been working as an Application Sales Engineer for Vaisala since 2005. She is based in the Vaisala Boston office in the US. As a fairly new Vaisala employee, she remembers the hiring process well. She applied to the Vaisala job advertisement on-line and was contacted by one of the Human Resources Managers in Vaisala. During the process she learned more about Vaisala and the position she was applying for. She was especially impressed with the Vaisala people and the fact that they took pride in the Vaisala name and the products.

She also values the support her colleagues gave her as a new employee. The main challenge for a new Application Sales Engineer is to learn all the product capabilities. Luckily, there are a lot of experienced personnel who are all willing to teach and help. "My first observation when I joined the company was how knowledgeable the people are. People are well-trained and well-educated in their fields. More importantly, everyone is accessible and willing to help you if you have questions", she says.

During her two years in Vaisala, Yani has learned that the opportunities to grow and increase one’s knowledge are always available if one is motivated to take advantage of them. In her role as an Application Sales Engineer, learning opportunities come, for example, from traveling to customer sites to see how Vaisala products are used in different applications. This knowledge is key in helping customers solve their measurement needs. Yani has also recently received her MBA. In the future, she wants to continue her personal growth and to take on more responsibilities and projects.

For Yani, one of the most memorable experiences during her Vaisala time has been the participation on the Vaisala Global Applications Team for the Wind and Optical product lines. As part of this team, she has had the opportunity to meet Vaisala employees from all over the world and learn about their experiences. This program enables the members of the team to support and share knowledge in order to learn and also to be more effective at what they do.

On weekends and whenever Yani has free time, she spends it with her family. "It´s not always easy to balance work and family life, but if you plan and organize it well, it is possible", she says.
